DIY Mullet! Can you Mullet any 27.5 MTB?
I'm gonna take my 2017 Kona Process 153 DL 27.5" Enduro bike and slap on a new 29 inch fork and front wheel to make it a Mullet! This bike is awesome and I've been riding it stock for over 4 years. It's a tank and crazy fun to ride but every time I get on it I miss the 29er's ability to plow over obstacles on the trail.
I swapped a 160mm Rock Shox Lyrik fork for a 150 mm Yari to hopefully minimize the potential negative effects to the geometry. The wheel is a Crank Bros Synthesis wheel and I got a great deal on a Maxxis Dissector tire in 3C and Maxterra compound. We'll see how it works up front.

Here's how the change affected the numbers:

Head tube angle 64.8 64.0
Seat tube angle 68.3 67.3
Bottom bracket height 13.5 inches 14.125
Stack 37.5 inches 38.25
weight 32.7 pounds 32.5

    Yes, been toying with this kind of thing a while. Looked at some available products. I found the hoochie poncho is just too heavy & badly made to be useful. The hood is made to go over a helmet, so that just doesn't work. Your design seems similar but more practical & serviceable . More recently, I have been trying to come up with more ultralight solutions. Part of that is multi use like your poncho/tarp/hammock/bivvey, only lighter & more compact. The reason is that I mostly do day walks or fly fishing outings. The intention is obviously to drive home at the end of the day or return to a camp, but I am considering the contingency plan for an unplanned overnight. So in this case I have minimal carrying capacity & don't want to expend too much effort carrying things that probably won't get used at all. I got a small 2.8m x1.5m super lite tarp. I can wear this as a cloak with a hood, or set it up as a shelter in several different configurations, or it could possibly be used as a bivvy but I would avid that as it is much more comfortable & less likely damaged as an overhead shelter. I could peg a mylar sheet inside it to reflect the warmth of a fire onto me as well, also protecting the mylar from wind damage. I haven't used it in a simulated event though still going through a process of working things out. I figure I'd have to gather heaps of vegetation for a warmish bed & use a SOL bivvy which will be darn uncomfortable, but it's an emergency thing & there really isn't anything that is warm & day back light & compact. If it's cooler, I carry a compressed down jacket in addition to day clothes. I tend to think there is no light weight option for warmth, without a fire, so that is my plan for warmth, just better not be incapacitated. For planned overnights I have more normal light weight & comfortable hiking gear. It's great what you have done, when do you go into production?

    Fantastic video. For those without a vice or strap wrench - you can slacken the outer collar before removing the seatpost from the frame. The black hose fitting which connects to the post needs an 8mm spanner, the poppet valve is a 10mm and the poppet valve housing is an 11mm.

    Thank you for the videos! Like you, I’m also a fellow pilot! Just had my first trip after the injury and it bothered me a bit. Not so much operating the overhead panel but cross body stuff and handing paperwork to the FA’s. I didn’t realize how awkwardly we twist during day to day ops! Anyways, I went for a pop fly in softball 5 weeks back, landed wrong and here we are. Grade 3 AC shoulder separation. I have full ROM and started to get back to lifting weights in the gym. The shoulder feels fine but the muscles surrounding the scapula get pretty tired and ache. I’m not sure if I should push through or scale back a bit. hope you're still around to answer questions, thanks for the video. i just had a grade 3 separation and was told sling and ibprofen for weeks. in doing that tape job i understand it's purpose but what if the raised collar bone there is still inflamed causing pain with pressure, have to wait a bit for that to go down before taping?

    • @TrailBreaker
      @TrailBreaker Місяць тому

      Sorry to hear that. The bump won't go down but eventually the torn ligaments stop hurting as the ends heal. They won't grow back together but it's kinda like cutting a rope and using a lighter to seal up the frayed ends. I was told to NOT wait and start PT as soon as I could stand. The tape job isn't to hold the collar bone down but to help support the weight of the arm hanging down.

    I came off my bicycle 30 years ago exactly in the same circumstances as you and broke my collar bone. It healed and still looks slightly crooked but not a problem. Last week I came of my motorbike riding on sand and landed on my shoulder causing AC joint separation (level 3-4). I never felt any pain - still don’t. But I know the damage due to the bump on the shoulder and gap below clavicle. I learnt a lot more from your video here - more than my consultant was able to tell me. So “it will never heal” and bump will never go away. Oh well at least now I have matching shoulders - more or less 😂. Thank you for sharing your experience.

    For trips in winter and when the weather is very wet, it is better to use brake pads made of solid copper sheet. 100% copper brake pads do not require heating like sintered metal. and work from a cold start. therefore they work better than baked in mud, water and in winter.
